Joliet Public Library Annual Star Wars Day June 4th
I’m just now wrapping up an amazing day of trooping. It’s my first troop since my operation and I have to say, it feel good to be back in my armor. Anne and I were representing our Nebraska clan Ne’tra Vhipir at the Joliet Public Library’s 11th Annual Star Wars Day. This is a one day event were Star Wars cosplayers come together and interact with the public. What is amazing is this event started off as a tiny celebration to kick off a summer reading campaign and now is one of the largest gatherings of Star Wars Costumers outside of LFL/Disney sponsored events. It has been an event I’ve always wanted to go to since 2019.
I have to say I was blown away at the hospitality of the local Nexu Clan Mandos, Rebel Legion Nar Shaddaa Base, and the Midwest Garrison. They all ran a tight ship and provided support for all the costumers with a hospitality room, plenty of water, and several places to change into our kits. We had a march in the morning followed by a group photo. We then would disperse out amongst the crowd and library to mingle take photos. By the end of the event, I’ve made new friends and found out how amazing it is to work together with three other Mandalorian clans. As a bonus, Anne and I found out we are the furthest travelled Mandalorians at 6+ hours drive time!
I‘ve always told prospective members one of the best perks of being a part of the Mando Mercs is a sense of family. Working with our sister clans reminded me that our bonds are truly stronger than bes’kar.
I can’t wait for next year’s event.
